"The worthless are prized..."

From a portion of today's Readings – Psalm 12:

....protect us from this generation.

See how the wicked prowl on every side,

while the worthless are prized highly by the sons of men.

Almost every time I read this I think of the popular magazine covers that glare at us in the supermarket check-out lanes and the people whose lives so model what is "worthless," often with their sins being the subject of entertainment. And so we pray: protect us from this generation.
